South32 Worsley Alumina Visit Provides Insight into Mining Employment Opportunities

A group of Year 9, 10 and 11 students had the valuable experience of visiting the South32 Worsley Alumina refinery near Collie at the end of Term 3. This excursion allowed students the opportunity to gain real insight into mining and refinery operational processes and the employment opportunities available with the company.

Students met with the Refinery General Manager Julius Thomas and other Area Managers before enjoying an informative bus tour of the refinery visiting the bauxite stockpiles, conveyor belt, process areas and central control room. The tour provided students with a firsthand view of the operations and machinery involved in the alumina production process. Students also had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with staff working in various business areas such as HR, Environment, Process Engineering, the Laboratory and also Engineering.

A real highlight for students at the conclusion of the visit was meeting the Emergency Response team and learning about their training, processes, vehicles and equipment.

Our sincere thanks to South32 Worsley Alumina for organising this informative and valuable experience for our students.
