Thank you to all families who attended our 2023 Presentation Night on Monday, 20 November, at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre (BREC). It was a night of celebrating achievements and reflecting on the fantastic year we have had.
Students were presented with different awards, acknowledging their contributions to co-curricular programs, embodiment of our Mercy values, demonstration of leadership and mateship, and/or exceptional dedication to their studies.
Families enjoyed outstanding performances by our talented drama, dance, and music students in between the awards presentations.
This year, we have begun a new College tradition. As part of this tradition, the outgoing College Captains handed over a message stick, as designed by local Aboriginal artist Peter Jetta, to the incoming captains.
Message sticks, a form of communication used by First Nations peoples, are made of wood and are generally carved or painted with symbols and decorative designs conveying messages and information.
Each College Captain, starting from the graduating class of 2020, shared a message of hope, inspiration, or encouragement for future students as they passed on the message stick.
From the graduating class of 2020, 2020 College Captain Sienna passed on the following advice, as stated by Greek philosopher Aristotle:
'Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.'
Mikela Faries, 2021 College Captain, passed on the following words of wisdom:
'Just be you, and you will get through.'
The 2022 College Captains’ words of encouragement to future Mercy students are:
'Don’t worry about it, solve it.'
The current Captains, Henry and Sophia, passed on the following words of wisdom to 2024 College Captains Alain and Claire:
'Take your time to enjoy the moment and make the most of it.'
