Careers and Employability

Course Description

The Careers and Employability General course prepares students for the transition from school to further education, training and employment. It helps students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to make informed decisions about their future pathways in an ever-changing world of work.
Students explore career and employment opportunities while developing the employability skills valued across a wide range of industries. These include communication, teamwork, digital literacy, problem-solving, time management, organisation and self-management skills. The course also encourages students to be adaptable, proactive and lifelong learners who can successfully navigate future career opportunities.
Throughout the course, students investigate factors that influence career development, including workplace practices, personal strengths and interests, available resources, and broader social and economic influences. They learn how to research career pathways, evaluate opportunities and develop strategies to achieve their goals.
A key component of the course is the development of a career portfolio, which enables students to showcase their skills, experiences, achievements and future aspirations. The course provides a strong foundation for students considering university, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, traineeships or direct entry into the workforce.
