GENERAL

Music

Course Description

The Year 11 General Music course provides students with the opportunity to engage with music through performance, composition and analysis in a flexible and supportive learning environment. Designed to accommodate students of varying musical backgrounds, the course emphasises the enjoyment of music-making while developing practical skills, creativity and confidence. Students explore how music works by performing, creating and responding to music across a range of styles, contexts and cultures.
Students participate in both practical and written components, developing aural and music literacy skills alongside composing and arranging their own music. They investigate how social, cultural and historical influences shape music, and learn to analyse and reflect on music using appropriate terminology. Through individual and collaborative learning experiences, students build skills in communication, critical and creative thinking, and self-reflection. The course supports students to become confident, independent musicians and provides a foundation for further study, training and pathways in music and creative industries.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Advantageous to have completed Year 9 or Year 10 Music and a C grade in Year 10 English General. Students must be prepared to perform at school and external events.
