The ATAR Music course provides students with a comprehensive study of music through performance, composition, and analysis. Students develop technical and expressive performance skills on their chosen instrument or voice, while also exploring the creative process through composition and arrangement. Through listening, analysis and music literacy activities, students build a strong understanding of the elements of music and how they are combined to communicate ideas, emotions and narratives across a range of contexts, times and cultures.
The course supports students to become confident, creative and reflective musicians, fostering skills in critical and creative thinking, collaboration and self-expression. Students engage in both practical and written components, learning to interpret, analyse and create music with increasing sophistication.
The Music ATAR course prepares students for all forms of post-school music study and training, as well as for the many careers where music skills and knowledge can be advantageous, such as music teacher, music therapist, sound engineer, composer/songwriter, music producer, software developer and events coordinator/promoter.
