Our College staff commenced the term with a Formation Day titled, Faith in Action: Catholic Social Teachings and the Mercy Way.
The day began with a welcome back to Principal Rob Crothers, who had been on extended leave since Term 3 last year.
Staff held a short memorial service for Mrs Bev Seroka, Educational Assistant at the College between 2019 and 2023. Sadly, Mrs Seroka lost her battle with cancer during the holidays.
Head of Learning Support, Mrs Deb Saffy, shared her reflections on Mrs Seroka’s time at the College, and staff had the opportunity to light a candle in her memory.
The Formation section of the day began with a short prayer that focused on the theme. Staff were then invited to reflect on what Faith in Action means to them.
Throughout the day, staff participated in various sessions designed to learn more about their colleagues, how faith in action is expressed in the Bible, the principles of Catholic Social Teachings, and how they relate to the Mercy Way. Staff also discussed the value of service, which will be the focus value in 2025, and what this looks like at the College.
After enjoying a delicious lunch of soup and bread, catered by the Café, staff participated in several service activities, including:
Sorting clothes at St Vinnies in Treendale
Cleaning up Wardandi Reserve on Paris Road
Cooking zucchini slice for those in need in St Brigid’s Parish in Collie
Sewing felt hearts for Waratah Support Centre to give to families who seek assistance from them, as part of the 1000 Hearts Project
Participating in activities coordinated by Shendelle Mullane from Catholic Mission
Creating artwork related to Church seasons
The day was a meaningful experience for all, as it allowed staff to share memories of Mrs Seroka and reinforced the importance of faith, service, and community in our daily lives.
