Class of 2021 student Lewis Italiano will head to Melbourne later this year to fly the flag for WA at the WorldSkills Australia National Championships after being recognised as the best training cabinetmaker in the South West region.
Lewis graduated from Our Lady of Mercy College in 2021 and is currently completing a cabinetmaking apprenticeship with Studio Milton in Dardanup. He attends South Regional TAFE as a part of his apprenticeship training.
Lewis has always had a significant interest in woodwork and furniture making. During his time at Our Lady of Mercy College, he studied a range of related courses, including Materials Wood Design, Materials Metal Design and Building and Construction. One of the highlights of his final year at the College was the completion of a pool table ( pictured below).
Lewis competed in the World Skills event at the Bunbury TAFE campus in September last year and received a gold medal for the cabinetmaking category at a ceremony in Burswood in late November.
Lewis will form part of a WA squad who will head over to the WorldSkills competition together.
We wish Lewis the best of luck!
