A Tribute to Mothers and Mother Figures - Happy Mother's Day from our Year 8 Students

On Friday, 6 May, our Year 8 students and their mums and mother figures enjoyed a Mother's Day breakfast and liturgy in the new gymnasium.

It was a beautiful celebration of mothers and other women who have a special place in our lives, including stepmothers, relatives, guardians and close family friends. A great opportunity to reflect on the many ways they love and care for us.

This year, we are focussing on the Mercy Value of Compassion – something that the mother figures in our lives show every day by:

  • Listening when we talk about our worries

  • Patching us up when we hurt ourselves

  • Taking us to the doctor when we are sick

  • Giving us advice when are having problems at school or with our friends

  • Hugging us when we feel sad

Our mums and mother figures are truly amazing people.

The Year 8 students joined together to offer a prayer of thanks for all mothers:

God of love,

We thank you for the gift of mothers, aunties, nannas and sisters in our lives:

mothers who labour to bring us into this world,

who guide us on life’s journey,

who teach us how to pray to you.

We praise you, God,

for mothers and others who listen to us and cry with us,

who applaud our progress and laugh with us,

who want the best for us, who dream with us,

who love us always.

We ask you God,

To bless all mother figures in our lives.

Amen.

The students did a fantastic job in presenting the liturgy and mums were treated to a delicious breakfast, barista coffee, a photo booth and a touching video, produced by Year 12 media student, Rennan Dwyer, titled, “A tribute to Mothers and Mother figures.” You can watch the video by clicking on the link below.

The gymnasium was a perfect venue for the celebrations, and we thank all the staff for the beautiful decorations, flowers and the green floral backdrop of the photo booth.

We have created a special photo album, so that mums can download the high resolution photo's taken during the breakfast: Mercy Photo Album Page.

A special thank-you to our upper school students who volunteered to be waitstaff for this occasion and to the amazing café staff who have prepared the meals.

To all our Mercy Mums, we hope that you have a very happy Mother's Day!
