Two groups of Our Lady of Mercy students were fortunate to attend a workshop hosted by Australian author Kirsty Murray at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. The Young Writers Collective is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their craft as writers, and to gain insight into the life of a published author.
Students are able to self-nominate for the program at the start of each year. They attend a workshop with a different author each term, gain valuable feedback, and meet like-minded students from other schools.
This is a valuable program that connects our school with the same opportunities offered to metropolitan schools.
The Young Writers Collective builds upon the creative thinking and writing skills that are essential to the English curriculum, and students are often treated to some ‘tricks of the trade’ to make their writing more colourful.
