On Tuesday, 22 October, we celebrated the official opening of our Xavier Read Gymnasium.
We originally hoped to celebrate the opening closer to the gym's completion, but COVID protocols, the availability of key guests, and Principal Crothers’ temporary leave of absence meant some delays.
The ceremony began with a Welcome to Country by Elder Mr Dennis Jetta, followed by the blessing of the gym by Father Jess.
It was wonderful to see so many special guests in attendance, including Senator Louise Pratt, Hon. Nola Marino, CEWA Regional Officer Mrs Kerrie Merritt, CEWA representatives, members of the P&F and School Advisory Council, Mr Eamon Broderick from TRCB Architects, staff from other Catholic schools, as well as our own staff and students.
A highlight of the event was the unveiling of the commemorative plaque by Principal Mr Rob Crothers, CEWA Executive Director Mr Wayne Bull, former Bunbury Catholic College Principal Ms Denise O'Meara, and our College Captains of 2025, Olivia Mumme and Daniel Phillips. The plaque features artwork by 2024 Year 12 First Nations student Basil Hart.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this memorable event.
