Real-world Learning Opportunities with Sports Marine Boat Centre

Year 11 student, Ethan Leach, is currently participating in the College Workplace Learning program, as well as completing his Certificate II in Automotive Servicing at the Bunbury Regional Trade Training Centre.

Ethan has been attending Sports Marine Boat Centre, Bunbury, for one day a week since February to acquire industry hours to support his Certificate II in Automotive Servicing. This also contributes towards the practical component of the Workplace Learning elective.

While in the workplace, Ethan has had the opportunity to work alongside Senior Servicing Mechanics and Technicians, giving him exposure to a variety of skills and tasks involved in servicing boats coming through the workshop. Ethan recently assisted in completing his first 100-hour service on a boat motor, providing great satisfaction and fulfilment.

Ethan has also assisted with servicing trailers which first involves removing the boat to be able to gain access and properly maintain and check brake systems, wheel bearings and winch systems. He has also helped to clean and install radio systems to crafts.

Our Lady of Mercy College is proud of the work ethic that Ethan is demonstrating and the developing relationship with the team at Sports Marine Boat Centre.
