Transition to Employment for Kane Italiano (Year 12)

In 2022, Year 12 student Kane Italiano attended the Bunbury Regional Trade Training Centre to complete a Certificate II in Building and Construction. This course was part of the Construction Training Fund (CTF) Scholarship program that Kane commenced at the beginning of Year 11. Kane was provided with access to support and advice from Industry Training Advisors and job readiness training as a part of the CTF Scholarship.

A component of Kane’s Certificate qualification required him to acquire a minimum number of industry hours. With assistance from VET/Careers staff at Our Lady of Mercy College, Kane approached Cameron Reid from Resonate Homes to request a placement where he attended various worksites from April.

Kane’s work ethic, commitment and skill development resulted in an offer of employment with Resonate Homes several months after his commencement date. While extremely grateful for the opportunity, Kane wished to graduate Year 12, negotiating a Part-time Apprenticeship with Resonate Homes until such time that he could transition to full-time employment. Kane commenced his Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery on 29 June through South Regional TAFE.

Our Lady of Mercy College would like to extend our gratitude to Cam and his team at Resonate Homes for providing this opportunity and for their flexibility in allowing Kane to complete his studies. We are honoured to have journeyed with Kane to this point and wish him well in future adventures.
