Earlier this term, we shared the inspiring story of Year 8 student Matilda Pitts, whose journey through cancer has been a testament to her courage and resilience.
In a demonstration of love and positivity, Matilda’s friends, students, and staff of Our Lady of Mercy College came together to create a special project.
Over the weekend, this gesture—a custom Advent Calendar—was delivered to Matilda and her family. Made out of empty Pringle containers and filled with surprises, the Advent Calendar serves as a reminder of the support from her school community and closest friends.
The family, currently staying at Crawford Lodge (Cancer Council) while Matilda undergoes treatment, expressed deep gratitude for the connection they feel to the school and the bond Matilda shares with her friends.
Throughout her journey, this friendship group has been a constant source of love and encouragement, through video calls coordinated by staff, hospital visits, and now this beautiful calendar.
Inside each container, Matilda will find Christmas-themed photos taken by her friends, each accompanied by messages of love and support. Alongside these are boredom busters, self-care items, decorations, and crafts.
Matilda has one more round of chemotherapy to go and the family hopes to transition back home and to school by February.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this special project.
Matilda is going to love opening each and every one!
