Late last term and early this term, the ACC Football Carnivals were held, with our Year 7 and Year 10 boys and girls representing the College strongly. Across the day, both teams finished with an impressive record of two wins and two losses. Well done to all our footballers for their effort, sportsmanship and commitment.

The High Schools Netball Cup was also held in Term 2, with Our Lady of Mercy College entering an impressive seven teams. Our Year 7–8 girls and Year 9–10 boys teams both finished on top of their respective competitions, while our Year 9–10 girls performed extremely well to finish as runners-up.

As a result of these strong performances, all three teams progressed to the Elimination Finals, which were held in Perth in Week 4 of Term 3. Our junior girls team progressed to the second crossover final before being defeated by Rockingham. The Year 9–10 girls also made it through to the second crossover final, where they narrowly lost to Emmanuel Catholic College by just two goals. Our Year 9–10 boys competed in their finals today and finished third overall. This was a fantastic effort from all our netballers and coaches. Congratulations to everyone involved.

During Week 11 of Term 2, Our Lady of Mercy College sent 120 students to Perth to compete in the School Sport WA Country Week competition. We entered ten teams across a variety of sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, dance, touch rugby, soccer and netball. Throughout the week, students competed in multiple games each day against schools from across Western Australia.
After a full day of competition, students also enjoyed a range of evening activities, including bowling, movies and some late-night shopping. Most importantly, our students represented Our Lady of Mercy with pride, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship both on and off the field. They should all be very proud of their efforts.
The results from the week were:
Football Boys A Grade – 2nd Place
Netball B Grade – 2nd Place
Boys Soccer B Grade – 1st Place
Girls Soccer B Grade – 4th Grade
Boys Basketball A Grade – 5th Place
Girls Basketball C Grade – 2nd Place
Touch Rugby D Grade – 4th Place
Dance A Grade – 8th Place
Boys Volleyball D Grade – 5th Place
Girls Volleyball – 8th Place
Congratulations to all of our Country Week students on their outstanding achievements and the way they represented our College. Country Week participants will be recognised at a special awards assembly later this term.
In Week 3, Our Lady of Mercy College also competed in the Interschool Cross Country Carnival. It was a fantastic day, with all of our athletes giving their very best effort. Students competed over either a 2.5-kilometre or 5-kilometre course, depending on their age group, around Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. The challenging course took runners through trees, along dirt paths and across roads.
A special shout-out goes to James Butcher, who completed the 2.5-kilometre race in an incredible 8 minutes and 11 seconds. This was the fastest time recorded across all runners on the day.
Congratulations, James, on an outstanding performance, and well done to all our students who participated in the carnival.
Charles Kunje Strengthens Our Cricket Community

We would like to congratulate Our Lady of Mercy College Education Assistant and Cricket Coach, Charles Kunje, on his recent coaching appointments.
Charles has been appointed Head Coach of the WACA (Southwest) Regional Academy Program Under-14s and has also taken on the role of Head Senior Playing Coach at Leschenault Cricket Club for the next two seasons, beginning in 2026/27.
Charles brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to both roles. He represented Zimbabwe at Under-19 and Zimbabwe A level and also played senior cricket in the United Kingdom before moving to Western Australia. After playing for Shoalwater Cricket Club in the 2023/24 season, Charles was recruited to Rockingham-Mandurah District Cricket Club in the Premier Cricket 1st Grade competition. Across the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, he played 30 matches, scoring 623 runs at an average of 28, including a highest score of 118.
Having moved to Australind with his partner Yuleidis in 2026, Charles has quickly become an important part of our College sporting community. His passion for cricket and commitment to developing young players make him a fantastic asset to our students and the wider local cricket community.
Congratulations, Charles, on these exciting appointments. We wish you every success in your new roles.

Outdoor Education Class
Our Outdoor Education students have been making the most of the great outdoors, with recent activities including mountain biking and fishing at The Cut. These experiences provide students with the opportunity to develop practical skills and challenge themselves.

Swimming Success
Congratulations to Year 9 student Lachlan and Year 8 student Lynlee, who recently represented Western Australia at the School Sport Australia Games in Melbourne as members of the WA State School Swimming Team.

The Games brought together approximately 2,500 student athletes from Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, giving Lachlan and Lynlee the opportunity to compete at a national level.
Lynlee was also awarded the Australian School Sport Sportsmanship Award at the Australian School Sport Swimming Championships. She was the sole recipient from approximately 800 swimmers representing every state and territory across Australia.
This is an outstanding achievement and a wonderful reflection of the integrity, kindness and sportsmanship Lynlee consistently demonstrates. Congratulations to both Lachlan and Lynlee on their fantastic achievements!
Lachlan also won a silver medal with his relay team - one of only 6 medals brought home by WA.
Volleyball Success

Congratulations to Year 9 student Heath, who recently attended the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships in Adelaide as part of the Australian U16 squad camp, competing against U19 state teams. Heath has also been selected in the WA U15 State Volleyball Team, another fantastic achievement.
Powerlifting Success
Congratulations to Year 12 student Liam, who recently competed at the CAPO Powerlifting National Championships with outstanding results.
Competing in the Teen Men 16–17 Under 125kg RAW category, Liam finished first in his category and second overall in the Teen division. He also broke four national records, recording a 595kg total, a 245kg deadlift, a 140kg bench press and a 210kg squat.
These performances saw Liam ranked number one in CAPO in his category. Competing RAW means Liam completed all lifts without knee wraps or other supportive equipment.
This was Liam’s first national championships and a fantastic opportunity to compete against some of the country’s best young powerlifters. Congratulations, Liam, on an outstanding achievement and on the dedication and hard work behind these results.

We look forward to sharing more sporting successes in Term 4.
