Congratulations to Owen Cluning (Year 11), who secured a full-time apprenticeship with ABN Group under the guidance and mentorship of Lawrie Tylor at Stratham Bricklaying at the end of Term 2.
This time last year, staff in the Careers Department assisted Owen in submitting a 2022 application for the Certificate II in Building and Construction at the Bunbury Regional Trade Training Centre. Owen’s application was successful, and he was fortunate to be offered a Construction Training Fund (CTF) Scholarship to commence in February this year.
College staff continued to work closely with Owen in contacting Luke Anderson, Senior Training Manager at ABN Group, to request a work placement, and the connection with Lawrie and his team of bricklayers quickly evolved. Owen’s keenness to learn was evident, resulting in an employment offer after four weeks in the workplace.
Well done, Owen! We have been blessed to watch you grow your skillset and advance into the workplace.
