In a special Exhibition Opening and Awards Event held on Sunday 31 August, the winners of the 2025 Iluka Visions Art Awards were announced at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery.

We are delighted to congratulate the following Our Lady of Mercy College students on their success:

  • Mystery Award – Ari Martin, Southern Wing Bat (2025), dry point etching and watercolour pencils on Rosapina paper

  • Year 11 & 12 3D Award – Isabella Abbey, Here Lies the Future (2024), earthenware paperclay and rust patina (pictured above)

  • Year 11 & 12 Best Overall Award – Rocky Pike, I Shall Not Go Gently (2024), papier-mâché, feathers, bowls, paperclay, string, acrylic paint and dye

The piece that won the Best Overall Award, I Shall Not Go Gently, wowed the judges with its technical skill, but also for its bold and thought-provoking conceptual depth.

The judges went on to say:

"This mixed media 3D piece, rich with contemporary and controversial themes, challenged viewers and sparked extended discussion among the judging panel.

Executed with care and a thoughtful approach to a range of materials, the work demonstrated a commendable level of technical skill and creative integration. It reflected a mature understanding of both form and message-provocative, deeply relevant, and resonant with the spirit of exceptional art.

This piece exemplifies the power of visual storytelling to engage, confront, and inspire. The artist’s vision and craftsmanship are truly commendable, making them a deserving recipient of this year’s Year 11 and 12 Illuka Visions Overall Award."

Now in its 34th year, Iluka Visions is the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery’s annual high school exhibition, celebrating the creative achievements of students from schools across the South West. Since 1991, the exhibition has introduced students to the professional world of competitive art awards, with selected works displayed in the Gallery’s premier exhibition space.

Artworks in Iluka Visions 2025 include painting, ceramics, sculpture, wearable art, photography, video and mixed media. Students explored diverse themes such as social and political issues, the human condition, personal reflection and creative image-making.

We are incredibly proud of all our students who exhibited their work in this year’s Iluka Visions.

Special thanks go to Mrs Lisa Todesco, Head of Learning Area Visual Arts, for her dedication and passion in guiding our student artists.
