Mercy Justice Team Kicks Off 2025 with a Focus on Stewardship and Sustainability

Under the leadership of Year 12 Service Captains Udari, Caitlyn, Lilli and Gabe, the Mercy Justice Team is back for 2025. The role of this student group is to raise awareness of social justice issues in our community and encourage action to address them.

This year, the students have decided to focus on stewardship at the College and try to promote activities that raise awareness around the need to care for our environment.

Their first effort was to increase student participation in the Containers for Change program as one of the competitions in the Mercy Games. Each House was given two bins to fill with containers and points were awarded according to which House had the most 10c containers.

Thank you to the families who donated their containers and well done to Frayne and McAuley Houses for doing an amazing job filling their bins. This is a great cause - fewer products in landfill and the added bonus of money coming back into the College to support other initiatives.

On Thursday, 6 March, Candice Myers from Cleanaway came to address the Team about waste management. She spoke passionately about the waste hierarchy and why it is important to reduce the amount of rubbish being thrown away.

The Mercy Justice Team is aiming to put a team entry into the Captivate Capel Art Competition: From Waste to Art.
