Recently, six Year 8 students from our College volunteered to cook a sausage sizzle for parishioners who attend the 6pm Mass at Christ the Living Vine Church in Australind.
Students were responsible for setting up and packing up for the event, as well as cooking and serving the sausages. For a gold coin donation, parishioners could purchase sausage and onion in a bun with a range of sauces.
The celebrant for the evening, Fr Pat, asked for one of our students to assist him with the homily. Year 8 student Gabby Drury kindly agreed to prepare and deliver a reflection on the wonder of God’s creation, which tied in with the theme of this term’s Religion course.Â
Parishioners were impressed with how well Gabby spoke, and Fr Pat was very appreciative.Â
The evening raised approximately $300 for Caritas and provided a wonderful opportunity for parishioners to socialise.Â
Students were awarded 2 hours of Christian Service Learning.
