MERCY CRICKET - Kim Hughes Shield Wrap Round 2

Round 2

OLMC vs BSHS

Leschenault

Wednesday, 28 February 2024

Our Lady of Mercy College First XI took on Bunbury Senior High School (BSHS) yesterday at Leschenault. Rowan Jamieson, donning his blue blazer and baggy cap, won the toss and elected to bat.

BSHS bowled with relentless accuracy. Rhys McAtee and Montanna Dallywater were methodical in building a 28-run opening stand. Rhys was dismissed in the 11th over, and the Mercy wickets started to tumble from there. The following seven batters were dismissed for single figures (is a zero a figure? There were two of those. I’ll need to ask Mr Bryce). Monty remained calm, digging deep to top score with 21. Jay Pfoeffer and Harshaan Chahal combined for a courageous final wicket stand, which brought Mercy to a total of 82.

There was some strange sledging coming from the gully fielder for BSHS. When each new batter approached the crease, he would ask, “Do you know Mrs Goodwin… Is she a good teacher?”. Of course, all Mercy students replied with an emphatic yes. Each time, the fielder would smile and say, “I’m proud of her”.

The run chase was clinical. Two A-grade players put on a batting masterclass. Their intent and running between the wickets punctuated a strong win for BSHS. A few strong appeals early didn’t fall Mercy’s way. Mercy players remained positive throughout and should be proud of their efforts.

The next match is in Dallyellup against Dalyellup College.
