On Friday, 17 October, the College hosted the second Year 7/8 cricket game against Tranby College at Leschenault Recreation Ground.

The team for the day included Theo, Fletcher, Sam (Captain), Samuel, Thomas, Rohan, Taj, Logan, Bradley, Shaarav, Cooper, Jaxon, and Rehan. Captain Sam led the team with an inclusive approach, ensuring that every player had the opportunity to participate, including three students who had never played a game of cricket before. The positive energy and team spirit were fantastic throughout the day.

Match highlights:

  • Jaxon scored an unbeaten 50 (53 not out).

  • Shaarav, Cooper, and Logan played their first-ever game of cricket.

  • Shaarav took two wickets, including that of the opposition’s best batter.

  • Logan took his first catch, also dismissing the best batter.

  • No dropped catches across the team.

  • Batters focused on facing 20 deliveries each.

  • Three batters retired not out.

  • Every player bowled during the match.

A special highlight was meeting Charles Kunje, a First Class cricketer from Zimbabwe who currently plays Premier Cricket for Rockingham Mandurah. Charles led the team warm-up and offered mentoring throughout the day. We hope to welcome Charles to work with our cricket program in the near future.

A big thank you to Mr Grove, College Counsellor, for providing supervision during the walk to and from the ground.

Thank you also to Earle Watson and Angelo D’Agostino from the Leschenault Cricket Club for preparing the pitch. The players also demonstrated the Mercy value of Service by assisting the club at the end of play, helping to cover the pitch in preparation for the weekend’s games.

Mr Shane Jamieson
