On Wednesday 25 March we competed for the first time in the semi final of the Kim Hughes Shield against Belridge Secondary College.

Belridge SC are a strong unit having run a cricket specialist school for over 20 years. However, with our recent consistent performances and building experience and skills we knew we could compete. "Why not us?"

The match started strongly with the opening Belridge bowlers showing Premier Cricket standard consistency. Our batters did not appear overawed and started well despite an early wicket.

As the game wore on, we did seem to lose confidence in our own ability and along with some unlucky decisions we were all out for 118 runs. Jay top scoring with 40 is an indication of the depth we have for future campaigns.

It was our turn to bowl and Belridge looked on top until our captain and vice-captain took control. Monty and Sheldon were accurate and attacking. At 5/104 and three dropped catches, we realised that with a more controlled batting effort, we could easily have won this match.

However, the belief that comes from this match, camaraderie from the bus trip and the calm and knowledgeable guidance of Charles Kunje, our coach, will allow us the opportunity to make the final in the future and earn the opportunity to play at the WACA.

Congratulations to our Year 12 students Monty (C), Sheldon (VC) and Jedd on their OLMC cricket career. They have all participated with us from the start and we look forward to following their careers in the future.
