In week 3 of this term, the College celebrated Costello Day, honouring Sister Angela Costello for her remarkable contributions to Mercy education in the South West. Sister Costello inspired her students with high standards and a genuine love for the poor.
Principal Mr Crothers addressed the College community by celebrating student achievements and reminding students to be thankful and make the most of their opportunities at school, using Angela Costello as inspiration.
Principal's Address:
Good morning, everyone, and a special welcome to all Costello House members! Congratulations on your achievements this year, which include winning both the Athletics and the Cross Country.
Since my return, I have been reflecting on how lucky I am to be the Principal of such a great school. The students are wonderful. The teaching staff are so caring. The support staff are so dedicated.
Students, the teachers are trying hard to help you grow your knowledge and develop skills that will help you create opportunities for the future. They are also guiding you through a range of experiences to help form you as a ‘good person’ on the inside. They hope that the result of their efforts is that you are happy with ‘who you are’, that you have friends and that you respect yourself and are respected by others.
It is good to take time to appreciate what we have and what we enjoy – our family, our home, our hobbies and our sport.
Children who currently live in places like Israel, Gaza and Ukraine do not enjoy the same level of lifestyle as we do. Whole cities and towns like Bunbury, Australind, Collie and Harvey have been completely wiped out. There are no houses, no shops and no schools. Children your age do not know what their future will look like.
I encourage you to appreciate and make the most of your opportunities at school every day.
In the words of Sr Costello, let us Guide, Inspire, and Uphold what we believe in by what we say and what we do.
Enjoy your celebrations, Costello!
Costello student leaders took the stage sharing Sr Costello’s vision for the future, highlighting respect, cooperation, caring for the earth, and using faith to serve others. They continued the Costello celebrations at lunchtime with pizza and games for all Costello House members.
A special thank you to Mrs Basson and Costello staff and leaders for organising the assembly and celebrations.
