Message from Acting Principal Maree Maughan

Dear Parents and Caregivers, On Friday of Week 10, about seventy Year 7 students slept ‘rough’ for the night, sleeping on the cold Mercy gym floor. A guest speaker from St Vinnies spoke with the students about what it is like to be homeless. She explained that homelessness can happen at any age and outlined the support St Vinnies provides across the state for those in need. It was a great opportunity for students to connect with our Mercy values of Hospitality and Service. Thank you to the staff who gave up their time to join our Year 7 students for the night. This event is just one of the many activities that both staff and students have participated in this term. The term has included a variety of sporting events, Hayes, Costello, Champagnat and Frayne House days, excursions to a range of subject, career and trade events, as well as incursions by Paul Litherland and Red Frogs.

In Week 11, some of our Year 10, 11 and 12 students are attending Country Week and many of the Year 10 cohort will experience what it is like to be in the workplace.
Next term, we welcome back Mr Vince Bellini from four weeks of Long Service Leave, during which he travelled through England and Portugal, and trust he will return with renewed enthusiasm. We also welcome back Mr Zach Cope from his term of Long Service Leave spent visiting family in the USA, and Mrs Svitlana Bibikova from her year's leave.
As we head into Term 3, we would like to wish Mrs Karyn Cronin well as she commences her well-deserved five weeks of Long Service Leave travelling to the UK. We would also like to thank Mr Michael Bryce and Mr John Bylund for their generosity and willingness to assist with teaching classes while staff were on leave.
The College would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Teagan Doyle and her husband and Martika Tooth and her husband as they both prepare to welcome new additions to their families later this year.
As Term 2 draws to a close, we are presented with a valuable opportunity to pause, step back from our busy lives and reconnect with our families, taking time to rest, reflect and strengthen our relationships with one another. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all staff, students and families a safe and restful holiday.
Mrs Maree Maughan Acting Principal
