Students and staff were treated to a special surprise at the College assembly on Monday 22 June, when former student John Standley returned for a special performance.

John attended Our Lady of Mercy College from Year 7 until midway through Year 10 and is now completing Year 12 in Adelaide. During his time at the College, he discovered a passion for performing and began seeking opportunities to share his talent with others.

Since then, John has built an impressive career as a young entertainer, performing at major events across Australia and overseas. Most recently, he captured the hearts of audiences nationwide as a Top 6 finalist on Australian Idol, where he earned the nickname “Johnny Jukebox” for his energetic performances and love of classic hits.

As well as performing for students and staff, John enjoyed catching up with old friends.

John’s journey is a reminder that big dreams can begin in places just like this. Through dedication and the courage to step outside his comfort zone, he has transformed his passion into opportunities that have taken him far beyond what he once imagined.

We thank John for returning to the College to share his talent with our students and wish him every success for the future.

John will be performing his Greatest Hits show at Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on 1 August. Tickets are available through the BREC website.
