Since graduating from the College in 2022, Zoe has taken a path that reflects her passion for personal growth and wellbeing. Zoe has embraced new opportunities with confidence and determination.
What are you doing now? Tell us about your job or studies and your journey since graduating.
I’m now working as a Personal Trainer after completing my Certificate III and IV in Fitness at TAFE. Those who knew me in school would know I absolutely hated physical activity, but I’ve since come to love the gym, fitness and helping people gain confidence in themselves.
After graduating, I completed the UniReady course, which led to my acceptance into ECU to study Primary Education. However, after just one week, I realised it wasn’t for me and decided to follow my true passion for health and fitness.
How did your time at Our Lady of Mercy College shape your career or studies? Were there any teachers, subjects or programs that inspired you?
My time at Our Lady of Mercy College was definitely a rollercoaster of emotions, but the experience has shaped me into who I am today. I appreciate all the teachers who taught me and helped me succeed in school. I have grown from a very shy and timid girl to someone who is now a lot more confident in myself, both mentally and physically.
What is a memorable moment from your time at Our Lady of Mercy College?
Definitely Homeroom in Year 12 with Mr Galati, completing the Wordle every day!
What lessons or values from your time at the College do you still carry with you?
Lifelong learning would definitely have to be one of them. I’m learning new things, growing and improving every day.
Staying committed to goals and taking responsibility for my actions, always striving to be better.
Having resilience to get through difficult times in life, including personal setbacks.
If you could give advice to a student at Our Lady of Mercy College about preparing for life after high school, what would it be?
You don’t have to have everything figured out straight away! There can be so much pressure around this topic, but at the end of the day, you’re still young and you have so much time to figure out what you want to do.
We’re just little humans on a floating rock, so have fun, try new things and it’ll all work out in the end. Things will take time, so take it step by step. Progress over perfection!
What has been the biggest challenge since leaving school and how have you handled it?
The biggest challenge for me was definitely the social changes. I learnt that your friends in school might not be your friends forever, as you all go down different paths and mature in different ways. I’ve met so many new people along the way who have helped me grow into the person I am.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I would love to start my own business as a Personal Trainer and continue my passion for health and fitness, as well as grow my social media pages to do online coaching for people all over the world.
