Our Year 10 students can participate in the Year 10 Workplace Learning elective during Semesters 1 and 2. Zac Smith has been exploring career pathways linked to engineering, automotive and auto-electrical. He has been attending South West Fire Unit Fabrications to gain direct industry experience in a unique work environment.
South West Fire Unit Fabrications manufactures firefighting appliances such as fire trucks and associated firefighting equipment. They also service and repair a broad range of firefighting vehicles for emergency service organisations in WA.
Zac has learnt about metal fabrication processes related to vehicle body building. He has also had the chance to gain hands-on experience in servicing diesel vehicles and testing firefighting equipment such as fire pumps.
When he was visited by the Career Services Team, he was assisting in servicing a fire truck and learning automotive technology skills. Zac is enjoying his placement, as it will assist him in preparing for future employment and training in his chosen career path.
The College would like to thank Colin and his team for providing Zac with an invaluable learning experience.
Please contact the OLMC Career Services Team if you would like more information about the College’s Workplace Learning program.
