Year 9 Students Explore Mining and Construction Pathways with Yalagan

As part of the Year 9 Career Taster Program, our Careers Services Team aims to provide our students with opportunities that suit a range of career pathways.

In week 7 of Term 4, our Year 9 students had the opportunity to learn about careers in Civil Construction, Mining and the Rail industry through a hands-on demonstration by Yalagan Registered Training (YRT).

The event was a great experience for our students as YRT shared insights into the significance of adopting safe working practices, emphasising the correct use of common Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), recognising safety signs, understanding exclusion and safe working zones, and providing live demonstrations of specialised safe working equipment.

The students indicated the main highlight of the session was the hands-on and practical exercise, where they actively engaged with YRT's purpose-built mobile training unit. This unit facilitated a range of safety tasks, including the creation of safety exclusion zones and hands-on experience with climbing the trailer, exposing students to working at heights and in confined spaces.

We would like to thank Paul Bennett from Yalagan Registered Training for visiting our College and providing our students with this wonderful opportunity.
