A group of our Year 9 students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit Wespine Industries and explore the diverse career paths available in the timber industry. The team at Wespine provided invaluable industry insights, including a virtual firefighting lesson, giving students a hands-on learning experience.
During the guided tour of the processing plant, students discovered the full journey of softwood timber, from harvesting to its final use in the building and construction sector. It was fascinating to see how Wespine maximises sustainability by using every part of the harvested trees.
The feedback from our students was overwhelmingly positive. The team made everyone feel so welcome, and we had the privilege of hearing from John, Charmie, Sue-Lin, Sam, and Brad, who shared their career stories and provided fantastic insights into employment opportunities at Wespine.
"It opened up my eyes to a new understanding and new outlook on different careers.” – Molly Moorhouse
“It was good, and I also learnt a lot of new things.” – Harshaan Chahal
This visit was made possible through the Year 9 Career Taster program, and we extend a big thank you to South Regional TAFE, especially Marchelle and Chelly, for organising this great experience.
