On Monday and Tuesday of Week 4, Term 3, our Year 8 students embraced life and nurtured their faith by participating in the much-anticipated Year 8 Retreat. Originally planned for Term 2, inclement weather caused the event to be rescheduled. Despite the threat of poor weather again, it held off until Tuesday evening, allowing our Year 8s to enjoy a range of activities at the Wellington Discovery Forest and the College.
The theme of the faith day was Caring for God's Creation, and students traveled by bus to Wellington Dam to learn about biodiversity, the Western Shield project, and the area's significance to local Aboriginal people.
The activities were led by staff from Nearer to Nature, linked to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
The pastoral day focused on developing a deeper understanding of character strengths and how they can be used to enhance learning and personal growth. This was coordinated by our Head of Year, Mrs Owen-Tucker, and led by College staff.
Here are some reflections from our students:
🌳 Marlee: "The blind ropes course on the Sense-sational Trail was awesome."
🌳 Quinn: "We learnt how to catch and release animals to test their wellbeing. This was interesting."
🌳 Noah: "Each of the factions went on a big walk and we saw the biggest tree in the forest."
🌳 Daniel: "The spaghetti challenge was creative and fun."
🌳 Bailey: "Hayes House winning Tic Tac Toe was a good feeling."
Thank you to all the staff and students for making this retreat a fun and enriching experience.
