During recess today, the students were able to purchase pancakes for $2 in celebration of Shrove Tuesday. The pancakes, cooked by Mrs Ritchie’s amazing Hospitality students, were a huge hit among the students.
The aroma of the freshly made pancakes could be smelled throughout the school grounds, drawing in a large crowd of hungry students.
The students were very excited to enjoy this delicious treat while also learning about the significance of Shrove Tuesday in the Christian tradition.
Why pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?
Shrove Tuesday is the day before the beginning of Lent, on Ash Wednesday. Lent is traditionally a time of fasting – limiting food to the bare essentials. Traditionally, Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity for Christian families to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast. Pancakes are the perfect way to use these ingredients.
A total of $700 was raised, which will be donated to Caritas' Project Compassion. Well done to all students involved.
