A selection of Year 9 students recently participated in the Year 9 Career Taster Program Mini Industry Roadshow.
This exciting incursion, hosted by School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE), was an opportunity to get an introduction to various industries, including Medical Research, Hairdressing, and Carpentry & Cabinetmaking.
Throughout the program, students engaged in hands-on activities and learnt from professionals in their respective fields.
In the Medical Research session, they explored the world of scientific discovery, understanding the importance of research in advancing healthcare. The Hairdressing workshop allowed students to practice basic hairstyling braiding techniques and learn about the creative aspects of the beauty industry.
Meanwhile, the Carpentry & Cabinetmaking segment gave students a taste of working with tools and materials to create a wonderful woodwork piece.
Students thoroughly enjoyed their time engaging in the taster experience, with many expressing interests in career paths they had not previously considered. The experience opened their eyes to the wide range of opportunities available and provided them with an understanding of the skills required in each profession.
Below is some feedback from students who attended the event:
