Geography Students Explore Real-World Natural Environments

This semester, both ATAR and General Geography students have participated in exciting and educational excursions that brought their classroom learning to life.

Our ATAR Geography students took part in a Bushfires excursion run by WA Parks and Wildlife. It was a great opportunity to dive deeper into how bushfires shape Western Australia’s landscape. They learnt about the history of fire in the environment, how it’s managed today, and what goes into being prepared for bushfire season.

General Geography students took part in the Wonnerup Wetlands excursion, also run by WA Parks and Wildlife. This hands-on fieldwork experience focused on the unique ecosystems of the Vasse-Wonnerup wetlands. Students engaged in a range of activities, including site surveys, water quality testing, macroinvertebrate sampling, and assessing human impacts. They also examined management strategies aimed at promoting long-term environmental sustainability.

The students loved getting to use what they’ve learnt in Geography class out in the real world. It really helped them understand more about Western Australia’s natural environments.
