We are currently inviting applications for the role of SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Our Lady of Mercy College Australind is a nurturing co-educational secondary College for students from Year 7 to Year 12.

Our Lady of Mercy College is a new and vibrant College, located in Australind which is locally referred to as an aquatic paradise. Surrounded by water with the Brunswick and Collie Rivers to the east and south and the Leschenault Estuary to the west, it's a great place for boating, sailing, windsurfing, fishing and raising a family. Just 11 kilometres north of Bunbury, you can reach Perth in one and a half hours along the Forrest Highway, making Australind an ideal sea change location.

The College invites applications for the role of Science Laboratory Technician.

This role assists the Science Department by sourcing, preparing and organising the equipment and materials for all Science classes. In addition, the role will involve tasks such as the maintenance of Science equipment, management of stock and general Laboratory upkeep as required.

We are looking for a highly organised individual, who has the ability to relate well with staff and students, and to work independently as well as work as part of a team.

This position commences mid-January 2021.

Essential Selection Criteria


The successful person will have;

  • A Catholic background or the ability to demonstrate empathy with the Catholic ethos of the College

  • Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques / Diploma of Applied Science or equivalent

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the use of Hazardous Substances Risk Assessments and Material Safety Data Sheets

  • Experience and confidence in the use of chemicals and electrical equipment

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements and safe work practices

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the latest developments in laboratory technician practices

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in an educational context

  • Current First Aid Certificate

  • Be prepared to attend Professional Development workshops that will assist in successfully meeting the objectives of the role, especially in relation to chemical safety

Qualifications Required

  • Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques / Diploma of Applied Science or equivalent

  • Western Australia Department of Education National Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)

  • Working with Children Screen Check

  • Have completed, working towards, or be willing to work towards completing to CEWA Accreditation requirements. Additional information can be found here: CEWA Limited Accreditation Framework



Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 4.00pm (negotiable).
41 weeks per year, commencing in January 2021 and during school terms only.


Some afterhours work may be required from time to time.




Level 3-4, $52,590 - $64,715 commensurate with experience and qualifications
Award: Administrative and Technical Officers EBA
