Students Run Successful Play Café

You wouldn't expect to see native baby animals, finger paint and Teddy Bear Picnics at a Secondary College. This term, the Year 12 Certificate III Early Childhood Education and Care students organised all of these for some very lucky local toddlers.

As part of their course, the Year 12 students have been running a Play Café in the Mercy 101 building on Leisure Drive under supervision of their teacher and Early Childhood professional Mrs. Natasha Shields.

The Play Café has been very successful with lots of local mums and dads and little ones attending.

The students completing the certificate course were required to plan, organise and set up indoor and outdoor activities. This gave them additional hands-on, practical experience in an early childhood setting.

Deb Lewis, mum of Lachie said:

"My son absolutely loved Play Café. Every time we arrived we were greeted with big smiles and he couldn’t wait to get in there and play with the ‘big girls’. The themed days were so well planned and organised. It’s a great programme that both my son and myself enjoyed....The girls were amazing! "

The Play Café has now finished. The College is hoping to run this successful program again next year with new Year 12 students. Please follow our Facebook page for announcements in regards to this programme.
