Wednesday, 22 May 2024 · 5pm - 7:30pm

Join us for an information evening designed for all Mercy parents and caregivers who wish to strengthen their connection with their child’s learning and wellbeing.

Pick and choose hands-on interactive information sessions of your choice and stay back for the main event featuring Australia’s leading Keynote Speaker on Internet Awareness and Cyber Safety, Paul Litherland.

Session 1 Character Strengths - 5:00 pm - 5:25 pm Student Wellbeing | Building Growth Mindsets & Resilience | Reframing Perspectives

Character strengths are the positive parts of your personality that impact how you think, feel and behave. As parents and educators, we can use the character strengths as a ‘common language’ with young people to shape their lives in a positive way. At the College we focus on 24 character strengths. We teach students about the character strengths, get them to reflect on their own character strengths, provide them with targeted opportunities to develop specific character strengths, and encourage appreciation of strengths in others.

Come along to this session for:

1. A brief introduction to the character strengths

2. An outline of how the College leverages character strengths to build a positive community

3. Some advice for supporting your child through a strengths-based approach

4. Guidance towards character strengths resources

Session 2 Elevating Academic Success - 5:30 pm - 5:55 pm

Study Skills | Test & Exam Prep

Completing study at home is an important aspect of your child’s schooling in the development of habits that they carry with them into their workplace or future study.

By attending this workshop, you will gain practical insights into how to support your child’s learning journey. You will explore their learning style, and learn strategies to help them prepare for school assessments and exams. Your involvement in their learning process is a proven pathway to academic success!

Session 3 Working in Partnership - 5:30 pm - 5:55 pm

SEQTA | CDF | Communication

Your child’s school journey is a journey best not taken alone. At Our Lady of Mercy, we believe that a strong partnership between the student, the parent or caregiver, and the school enhances and fulfills the child’s learning experiences.

This workshop will explore the efficient use of school resources such as SEQTA and CDF Pay. We will also explore avenues for communication when there is a student or parent need, and how to best support your child to take action when required.

Session 4 Paul Litherland, Safe on Social 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
