Hospitality Traineeship Opportunity for Rachael (Year 10)

Traineeship opportunities emerge from a variety of means and allow students to engage in real-world training to acquire a certificate qualification while remaining at school.

Year 10 student, Rachael Foster, responded to an invitation from Fiona Blackmore at ATC Worksmart, who advised a Traineeship opportunity was available through The Coffee Club Eaton Fair. Rachael attended The Coffee Club on a trial basis and completed her Year 10 Work Experience block week placement at the popular café in Eaton Fair.

Rachael provided the following feedback in response to her placement; "The whole experience was enjoyable; I learnt a lot of new things in hospitality that I didn't already know… Hospitality involves a lot of self-management, confidence, teamwork and initiative. I had to make sure I had good communication and confidence when talking to customers."

Café owner, Tony Alloca, was delighted with how Rachael interacted with staff and patrons, showed initiative during her placement and subsequently offered Rachael the Traineeship.

Rachael met with Fiona Blackmore from ATC Worksmart and Vince Matteo from Apprenticeship Support Australia on 17 June to sign her contract. Rachael attends The Coffee Club Eaton Fair as a paid employee one day a week and continues to study at the College for the remaining four days. Rachael will be working towards completing units for her Certificate II in Hospitality, which will also contribute towards her WACE.

Our Lady of Mercy College would like to congratulate Rachael on her new appointment. We would also like to sincerely offer our thanks to café owner, Tony Alloca, Fiona Blackmore from ATC Worksmart and Vince Matteo from Apprenticeship Support Australia for their dedication to providing our students with valuable real-world opportunities and growing an amicable relationship with the College.
