GENERAL

Dance

Course Description

General Dance is predominantly a practical course, where most classes are physical dance classes, however there is also a written component which students must complete. This course has no examinations in Year 11, however in Year 12 students must sit a 50-minute Externally Set task (EST) during Term 2 which will examine content from previous units. General dance is intended for students who wish to explore choreographic processes and learn about the entertainment potential of dance and choreography. It is structured in such a way to accommodate both experienced dancers and those that are at the beginning of their dance journey. Students will develop their dance technique and present structured choreographic works for performance. They will gain understanding of movement and experience a variety of dance styles such as jazz, contemporary, ballet, tap and Broadway musical choreography.
