Home Economics Assistant

​

Our Lady of Mercy College Australind is a nurturing co-educational secondary College for students from Year 7 to Year 12.

The Home Economics Assistant will work collaboratively with the Home Economics teacher(s) and members of the Technologies Learning Area to provide support and assistance in delivering the Western Australian Curriculum. Their primary role is to assist the Home Economics teacher(s) in the delivery of the planned educational programs. The Assistant will be flexible and will provide support when required and efficiently support the technical and administrative needs of the Home Economics area of Our Lady of Mercy College. 

 

The role includes cleaning and maintaining equipment, food preparation and safe handling of food, food ordering, shopping and laundry duties. Please see below the responsibilities of the position:

Weekly:

  • Correlate weekly recipes per class

  • Order ingredients online

  • Local shop weekly for ingredients

  • Stock taking and checking dates on all pantry and fridge items

  • All barista correlating, ordering, purchasing

 

Daily:

  • Assemble ingredients per class for students to collect from

  • Prepare ingredients for teaching staff practical lesson demonstration per class

  • Washing teaching staff dishes, benches and sinks after each lesson

  • Sterilising students' benches and sinks after each lesson

  • Check the fridge, cool room and freezer for the correct temperature

  • Empty FOGO bin

  • Washing, drying and folding tea towels, hand towels and dish clothes after every practical lesson daily

  • Cleaning Machines and all dishes associated with barista training

 

Other

  • Cater, correlating, ordering, purchasing, cleaning, and washing functions, including Mercy on Show, Pancake Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Change of Season Lunches (usage of equipment, ovens etc)

  • Supplying equipment to other departments and cleaning as required (Meetings etc)

  • Deep clean ovens, stovetops, unox machine

  • Clean extraction fan covers, dishwasher components, fridge components, freezer

  • Equipment stock take

  • Wash and sanitise shelves

This position commences in January 2023, prior to the commencement of Term 1.

 

Selection Criteria


The successful person will have:

  • A Catholic background or the ability to demonstrate empathy with the Catholic ethos of the College

  • A minimum of 2 years of proven experience in a similar role

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills

  • High-level organisational, interpersonal and verbal skills 

  • Demonstrated capacity for self-directed work and for taking initiative 

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Well-organised, accurate, flexible, creative and innovative

  • Knowledge of OHS, Food Hygiene and First Aid

  • Basic word processing skills.

  • A warm, welcoming and friendly disposition.

Requirements

  • National Criminal Record Check

  • Working with Children Screen Check

  • Have completed, working towards, or be willing to work towards, 'Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School'. Additional information can be found here: CEWA Limited Accreditation Framework


Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30 am – 3.00 pm.
40 weeks per year. 
Some after-hours work may be required from time to time.


Salary Package
Code 03231 Step 3 $50,086 - 61,086 full-time per annum
